Easy-to-read, or easy language is a way to make written or spoken information accessible for people who have difficulties with reading or with understanding, or for a person who has limited knowledge about the language.

Easy language uses common and concrete words.
Sentences are shorter and written in active form with a relevant content. Layout is clear and illustrations support the content and are easy to understand.

Examples of who can benefit from easy language:
- persons with cognitive or intellectual disabilities
- persons with dyslexia
- elderly
- immigrants

Easy language is a way to make information accessible for more people and enable them to participate in society.

The target groups for information in easy language are people who can’t read and/or understand the traditional version. The easy language version takes into consideration the difficulties and challenges the targeted reader has.

The information is not too long for this specific target group.
Nothing is written between the lines or presented with metaphors.
Everything that needs to be explained is explained.
The structure and layout are clear and logical, and easy to follow.

People who has difficulties with reading or with understanding, or a person who has limited language or background knowledge can benefit from easy to read.

Ulla Bohman, the founder of Boarve Konsult, is one of the most experienced easy language consultants in the world.
She worked for many years at The Swedish Centre for Easy to Read, the organization that started the international easy language movement.
At the Centre, Ulla Bohman was the manager of the Easy Language Service. She and her team put easy to read and accessible information on the agenda, developed guidelines and adapted several thousands of texts.

Ulla Bohman’s expertise is often asked for by organizations outside Sweden. Throughout the years she has been involved in many international easy language projects and she is often asked to be part of the advisory boards as well as giving keynotes at conferences.

Boarve Konsult is based in Sweden but can take on assignments in English anywhere in the world.
